Starting Flame Paper 6"ers

flame6s-one.jpg

I started a new set of 6" square pieces, this time on unstretched canvas, which I haven't done at this size before.  I wanted to keep the four similar enough that I could work on them at the same time but different enough to play.  I painted the backgrounds and adhered the pretty handmade marbled paper.  Since I used the same foam brush, some of the collaged papers were tinted by the paint and other weren't.

For my next step I pulled out the watercolor crayons and liquid acrylic medium to extrapolate pattern.  I hate the one in the bottom right, where I tried to overlay a semi-grid with green outline squares.  That will be considerably reworked.  I love the one in the bottom left where I extended the pattern the gold was making and added extra bits in red.  I'm reasonably happy with the direction the top two are taking.  I added multiple lines to the left and on the right tried a different approach by greying out most of the image, except for one scrap of bright paper as a focal point.

Wow! I love what is going on in these pieces, Beth. I will look forward to seeing what happens next. I'm hoping the underdog in the lower right makes it. Could even something as simple as reorienting it make you love it a little bit?

Thanks Elizabeth. I collaged over the underdog - I like that term! - and part of it still shows through. Those most recent changes will be in my next post.
