Primary Backgrounds

metal_backs_1.jpg

I did some painting last night - very very basic painting.  These three heavily embroidered squares were done a couple years ago, but when I started putting them together into one piece on top of another fabric base I didn't like the way it turned out, so they've been sitting around for a while.  Recently I decided to go ahead and use them, since at almost 5"x5" they are a good size to fit in with what I'm working on.  I didn't like how they worked together in a square, so I'm going with individual mini pieces.

The image of the backgrounds in my mind was darker, and more elegant, but as I actually started mixing colors I discovered, to my surprise, that using variations of the primary colors appealed to me.  None of the three are directly from the tube, of course, as I wanted to get closer to the hues that are actually in the stitched pieces.  Not much of the bright color will show on the finished piece either.  I still want to add a little complexity with watercolor crayons and then I'll attach each square to its respective canvas.

I also put down a layer of base paint for a footstep, but I'll show you that idea in a different post.

I think these are great little studies Beth! Cant wait to see them stretched. And I like the new look of your blog - very professional looking.

Thanks, Tina. And once they're complete you'll get to see the studies in better detail too, which I think is worth looking at. :) I'd been contemplating shifting my blog template for awhile. There's still some content changes I want to make - such as in the way the art is displayed in the gallery - that I hope will also increase that professional factor
