Solitary Leaf Completed

solitary_blog.jpg

The idea for this 6"x6" piece has been lingering in my mind for awhile, even as simple as it is.  When I was working with various materials to create First Shades of Autumn I came across these two papers and the skeleton leaf and wanted to combine them.  And now I have.  I hadn't anticipated the little bit of extra gold paper at the bottom right, or the more colorful lines of chain stitch sprouting off, but I think they add interest to the piece beyond the simple outlining that I had originally planned.  It's more minimalist than my usual work and I like the effect, although I can guarantee that I won't be abandoning my love of layers and complexity any time soon!

Hi Beth I just wanted to comment and say how lovely this piece is - and I like the format. I have worked in 4x4 6x6 and 8x8 - they all work in their own way and are great for any sort of series.

Thanks, Jeanne and Sharon.

Sharon, I've really been enjoying the 6x6 format as a standard for my small works. I just like the square for some reason and it's a great size to hold in hand and not overwhelm compositionally. What you mentioned about a series is where I really need to spend some time though, instead of making isolated pieces as I've been doing.
