Sashiko Portion Stitched

turtles-sashiko.jpg

The stitching process was successful!  I taped down the cardstock, although I should have used a different tape, masking tape was almost useless.  I pierced the holes and when I removed the paper I could clearly see the pattern.  I still had to count and look carefully to make sure I was going up and down in the right holes, but it was a pleasant experience and the pattern turned out well.

When I had picked the thread I thought there would be more value contrast because I thought that the background would be darker.  But I'm still happy with this the way it is.  I think this is my first footstep that actually fits the definition of a quilt!  Two or more layers of fabric held together by stitching.  Anyway, I have more plans for this section, including a bit of collage and more stitching before I start attaching the red hexagons.  Some of that collage will emphasize the underlying pattern more.
