Hand-Decorated Paper: Painted Ridges

While this did turn out in an interesting fashion, it just doesn't have the oomph that I imagined it would.  During my last Dick Blick order I purchased a packet of ridged papers with a plan in mind.  I would paint over them with liquid paint to tone the entire paper, then brush paint along the ridges, then fill in some ridges with those squeeze bottles of fabric paint, then dry-brush more paint across the ridges.  I figued that this would create interesting texture variations and color depth.

It sort of worked.  The paper was not the kind of ridged paper I was expected.  It's more like corrugated cardboard, but not exactly.  The picture shows about a 3" by 6" section.  And the base colors are so BRIGHT.  I also didn't get the effect from the fabric paint that I was looking for.  I'd forgotten how hard that stuff could be to control.   I like the result enough to send it into the swap with a clear conscience, but not necessarily enough to do the rest of the packet.  Which means I need to come up with more ideas.  Ack.  7 pages complete and 23 to go.
