Kalambah Jasper - Part 6 - Detail Stitching

jasp_land_blog.jpg

I found a way of keeping the flash from bouncing off the stones while still indoors - shoot sideways.  It won't help me for the final image, but it means I get to show some fun detail shots.  I like this first one because it shows the three-dimensional element of the stitching.  The second image is closer to head on and shows the placement of the stitches better.

I completed all of the chain stitch on the black and green fabrics since my last posting and also attached the green piece to the canvas.  I first used threads that were in other places on the art work and then added bits of stitching in other threads, such as a Kreinik braid and a linen fiber, around this detailed area with a touch or two further out to keep the eye moving.

I could have kept going and going and going.  I had been thinking about adding in some purplish threads and maybe some more beading from my stash, but I propped the canvas up against the wall and all I could think of was "why add more?"  I could, but would it really improve the piece?  Does it need more?  I don't really think it does, even though it is not quite as I had imagined it would be when I began working on it.

Now I need to take the canvas off of the flat 16" stretcher bars and mount it properly on the 12" stretcher bars and make sure that I am still pleased with it before I sign it.  As an extra touch, though, I thought I'd show the back of the stitching.

I love this new work! It is so you, but the colors and your use of perspective are newer, and quite exciting. I hope you're bringing it on Sunday.

Thanks! I am indeed bringing it on Sunday. I've actually completed it and stretched it but need a sunny day to take a good photograph for the blog.
