Creating art is as much a tactile pursuit for me as it is a visual one. I love the feel of fabric and thread, handmade papers, or the resistance of the brush against the canvas. My finished pieces tend to showcase texture or else the visual illusion of texture created by pattern. I am fascinated by layering combinations of paint, paper, fabric, thread, beads, and occasional other oddities.

In 2004 I came to the unexpected realization that I didn't need to draw realistically to create original art. This epiphany sparked experimentation in, reading about, and playing with various media, beginning with my earlier hobby of embroidery. I began in artist trading cards and built up to larger works. I sold a few pieces and exhibited locally in juried shows. Then in 2008 my life and focus changed and I pulled away from my art.

Beth RobinsonOne MBA and one newly mobile child later I am determined to reclaim the right-brained self-expressive creative thrill and contentment that making art made possible. It's a great balance to my primary career as a product development chemist.

I'm currently intending to gently explore, to move deliberately slower, and to build my skills, but I still have this dream in my head of someday creating complex layered pieces that represent multiple perspectives and my own voice in designing a paradigm out of chaos.

In the meantime, I blog to share my artistic journey with you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or just to chat.
