Pushing the Limit Aside

8"x8" embroidery. This was my first original fabric piece larger than an ATC. The design was also derived from one of those first sets of fabric ATCs. 2004

Purple Droplet

4"x4" beaded and quilted embroidery matted in an 8"x10" frame. This piece was designed improvisationally as I was stitching. 2004

Echoes

5"x7" collaged and painted lace enhanced with embroidery. This piece was in the Art30 Exhibit at Mixed Media Art Gallery in 2005 and was mentioned in a newspaper write-up as one of many good pieces remaining. Within a couple days it became my first sale! May 2005

Verdigris

5"x7" embroidered and painted lace. As I was working on it, this piece made me feel like I'd been stumbling around in a basement and found a treasure of texture. May 2005

Casbah Sonata

11"x15" embroidery at its widest dimensions. The baroque musical form of the sonata follows specific rules in the variation and mutation of motifs. I created "Casbah Sonata" as a visual representation of these rules, making a piece of music made to be seen. This piece was juried into the 64th Annual Open Juried Show held by the Greater Norristown Art League. July 2005

Lagoon

8"x8" embellished and embroidered English paper-pieced quilt. July 2005

Dancers

8"x10" embroidery. "Dancers" was inspired by an image of a 1920's flapper. As I created it I realized that what I wanted to capture most was movement, the shapes organizing themselves into a stately dance. August 2005

Elephant-aphant

3"x5" embroidery. I made this piece to go with my grandmother's elephant collection and gave it to her Christmas of 2005.

Asian Gathering

5"x7" embroidery and applique. I created this piece with my mother's Asian-inspired living room in mind and gave it to her for Christmas 2005.

Spiraling - One through Four

Four individual 4"x4" collages of paper hand-printed with acrylics. I had a great deal of fun manipulating and adding to these shapes that I originally created by double printing on cardstock with foam plates. March 2006

Dragon Scales

16"x20" embroidered and beaded fabric collage on gallery-wrapped canvas. I wondered what would a dragon's skin look like. Could a portion of it show the magnificence and wonder that I'd feel watching a dragon in flight? I played with stitches to create a variety of scales, then combined them to form a skin. "Dragon Scales" was juried into the 2005 Mixed Media Art Show held by the Montgomery County Organization of Professional Artists. March 2006

Universal

10"x13" collage. Layers of paper and paint and beeswax and oil pastel went into creating this piece. The texture of layers glows through the wax, a slight sense of movement draws me in, and I feel as if it could go on forever somehow if I could take another step closer. April 2006

Lunch in the Studio Again

11"x15" acrylics, lace, and collage. The dramatic sweeps of red and white paint are sandwiched between layers of lace, a drawn and collage depiction was the first layer of this collage and the final addition was actual hand-dyed lace adhered to the collage. The contrast of the lace to the paint inspired the title. This piece was juried into the 64th Annual Open Juried Exhibition held by the Greater Norristown Art League. May 2006

Centered

5"x7" embroidery on stretched canvas. When I look at this piece I just feel balanced and centered, hence the name, despite it not being symmetrical. I used pulled thread techniques to distort the central fabric and it makes a wonderful textural contrast to the smooth glass of the focal bead. June 2006

Fire Born

5"x7" embroidery on stretched canvas. As I manipulated the cheesecloth I began to see a face emerging from the embroidery, so I highlighted it and brought it out further. I'm not sure if it's a dragon or a demon or an elemental, but it is definitely "Fire Born". I sold this piece at Art40. June 2006

Kite-Flying in Zandvoort

12"x12" embroidered collage. My first major piece where I worked on loose canvas, then stretched it after the work was completed. The image was inspired by a scene I saw on a beach in Zandvoort, a town about an hour south of Amsterdam. It was the success of this piece that inspired me to continue onwards in this format. December 2006.

Kambaba Jasper
